Four steps from enrolment to sign-off

Review the guide
Work through eight modules online at your own pace — about 30 to 45 minutes in total, on any device.
Complete the assessments
A 15-question knowledge check and five workplace scenarios. Both need at least 80%, are reviewed by a trainer, and allow up to three attempts.
Be observed on the floor
A trainer observes you against 12 practical items using your venue recipe and equipment standards, then records your sign-off.
Eight modules, at your own pace
The guide covers coffee fundamentals, equipment and workstation readiness, espresso extraction, milk texturing, the coffee menu and guest service, cleaning and hygiene, and workplace practice activities.
You can use it as a first-time guide, a refresher before a shift, or a reference while you are learning the station.
The last step happens at work
Coffee knowledge only counts when it survives a busy service. A trainer observes you preparing the workstation, grinding and tamping to the venue recipe, extracting and assessing a shot, texturing milk for at least two coffee styles, presenting the coffee and cleaning down.
Hand hygiene and safe work practices, safe milk texturing, and purging and wiping the steam wand are critical items — if any are not yet satisfactory, you are coached and re-attempt before sign-off.
What completion means
Coffee Basics is a non-accredited internal learning program. It does not lead to a nationally recognised qualification or an accredited unit of competency. Completion is recorded according to internal training requirements. It is designed for internal capability development and workplace consistency — so that everyone on the station works to the same standard.
